Rimu Arthur's Pass Camp Series - 1

Hello Fellow Bloggers!
Last week, Rimu went to Camp!
We went all the way up to a place called Arthur's Pass.
You might not have heard of it before but it is a really beautiful place to go on a holiday!

Arthur's Pass is located inside of a valley about 4 1/2 hours away from Yaldhurst.
For those of you who don't quite know what a valley is, it's the place inbetween two or more mountains that meet near the bottom.
Arthur's Pass is a little bit of a difficult drive to get to, but it's really worth it!
There are a lot of beautiful scenes and plenty of trails to walk along!

The first place that we stopped was at a place called Castle Hill.
It's lucky that we did because a lot of the class was starting to get hungry.
It was covered in a blank sheet of snow about an inch thick.
(1 inch is equivalent to 2.54cm.)

We then kept driving for a bit longer then we had finally arrived at Arthur's Pass!
I will be sharing more of the Camp Adventures soon!
Bye for now!

Blog Commenting

What I Know About Blog Commenting :

Be Positive, Helpful, Thoughtful.
Don't share personal information to others (especially strangers)
Ask them a question, create a Bloger-sation.
Write something about their blog to show you read it.
Answer the question (If they have one) in the post.
Don't criticise.

Here is a Comment on Shay's Blog!

Hi Shay, It's me, Teegan.
I'm a year 8 at YMS!
It's great to see that you chose the first time you went to Winter Sports!
I think Winter Sports is really fun!
Hockey is also a really great sport to play as well!
Did you enjoy your first time at playing hockey?
I think you did a great story!
Kind Regards,

- Teegan J. Ducharme

Here is a Comment on Riley's Blog!

Hi Riley, It's me, Teegan.
I'm a year 8 at YMS!
I think Typing Club is a good way to learn how to type faster!
It also helps you to practice not looking at the keyboard and use finger memory to type!
Have you used it alot?
Kind Regards,

- Teegan J. Duchamre

These are some of the sentence starters I used in my blog comments!

Hope you can make some improvements if you can! Bye!

Story Time With Me... i don't like this idea

Hello Fellow Bloggers!
Today, I have to tell you guys a story...
And I'm not that creative with stories, so I'll just tell you about Mr Robertson!
Mr Robertson is our principal and every year we have an end-of-year assembly.

I guess it all started when my Mom wanted me to learn a song and then she would buy me an Acoustic Guitar...
(Prepare To Get Bored)

My Mom wanted me to learn how to play this song;
It's a GoodBye song so it fits the purpose, and so I learnt how to play it, well started to.
Anyways, My Dad was teaching me on the electric guitar and he played on the 12 string.
Which are harder to play than normal acoustic guitars. The next day my Mom had bought me the Acoustic! It was a nice red one too! This is what it looked like;

So i started to play it on it instead and it was my usual guitar now. It made the electric seem really small, compared to the wood body of a base boosted instrument. I've been practicing ever since I got it and I decided to play it for the End Of Year Assembly.

I brought it in one day and started playing with Mr Robertson and he showed me a couple of things I could play. Then it brings me to today, when he actually brang his guitar in to learn the song. (Yes, I have to teach him.) And that brings me to the end of my story!

Have you ever played a guitar before?
Or any other instrument?
Let me know!

Quality Blog Comment Check

Hello Fellow Bloggers!
This week at YMS, we learnt about Quality Blog Comments!
It's always important to write a quality comment!
We had to comment on the comment and suggest what needed to change.

Some of them had big spelling mistakes,
and others had personal information.
The most important thing about commenting and posting,
is that you NEVER put your personal information.

This was also a challenge as we had to work in pairs.
We didn't have to re-write them though.
Some of the comments were properly written.

Here is a screenshot of the work we did;
It was mostly my comments but my friend Shay did some as well.
We also had to use a thumbs up or down for them.
To write a quality comment, you need to think
Positive, something you like about their post.
Thoughtful, something that is nice about their post.
Helpful, something you think they could add to improve the post/suggestions.
Question, ask them about something from the blog.

Well, I hope you know how to write a quality blog comment now!

A Lesson About Resilience

Hello Fellow Bloggers!
This week at YMS, we learnt about something called Resilience!
Resilience is a funny kinda thing.
Think of it as learning from a previous experience.

If you were to take a spring and stretch it,
it would bounce back right?
But it would never be the same because
you stretched it out, it became longer.

Here is a short video to explain it a little bit better.

Video by :
First to Draw Limited
Resilience is basically about keep trying and trying.
If you fall off your bike 5 times,
How many times do you get back up again?
5! Because you kept trying over and over again!

There is a famous quote about Resilience.
"I Can Be Changed By What Happens To Me, But I Refuse To Be Reduced By It." - Maya Angelou
It is partly related to having a growth mindset.
To not have one view of failure, but to adapt from it.

For me, Resilience is going just fine, as it should be.
I haven't made another error on anything since last time!
I'm able to bounce back and carry on. Have you got any Resilience?
Let me know!

James Clear

Hello Fellow Bloggers!
This week at YMS, we were learning about James Clear!
James Clear is a man who our teacher told us about.
He is an author who wrote several books about success.
He also has a website with four easy tips for success.

The four tips were ;
Start Incredibly Small
How To Get Started In Less Than 2 Minutes
Improve By 1% Everyday
Use The Seinfeld Strategy - Don't Break The Chain

I'm going to talk about the Seinfeld Strategy.
James Clear has an entire story for each of those habits,
so I've just shortened one down for you guys.

In order for that to work, you would need
some Encouragement,
and Determination.

If you want to check out the rest of the story,
Click this Link!
But if you want to check out the rest of his website,
Click this Link instead!

Do you think you could do some of those habits?
Let me know in the comments!

CSO! The Christchurch Symphony Orchestra!

Hello Fellow Bloggers!
Today at YMS, was a very interesting day!
We had some guests from CSO!
The CSO came in a little group of about 11 players.
No, that was not a Typo. Players.

For those who haven't heard of the CSO,
It stands for; Christchurch, Symphony Orchestra.
They had a group of some of their players preform at our school!
For Free!

In the group was a Harp, 2 Violins, Chello, Tuba, Trombone, Trumpet,
Flute, Claironett, and a weird instrument called a Basoo.
They each told us about how their instruments worked.
Did you know that a Violin has 12 notes?
They are the same 3 chords played with different pitches!

Some of them had mini versions that we could try for ourselves!
They were a really cool band and I think it would be cooler with all of them!
They played a couple of  well-known songs aswell!
The Harry Potter and Star Wars theme songs!

We also have a Trumpet player in our class!
Mia takes the stage!

I really enjoyed listening to their performance!
Would you like to try and play one of those instruments?
Let me know!

Myself Summed Up In A Photo Collage

Hello Fellow Bloggers!

Rimu was given a task to create a collage
about what we like and our personalities!
Where your from, what you like...
A whole bunch of stuff like that!

We also learned about copyright and what to do!
Here is a link to Miss Morgan's Site with the slide on copyright.
We used a site called unsplash to get uncopyrighted pics.
Using unsplash, you can give credit to the owners of the pics.
I used some of their photos and made a pretty cool collage!

It looked a little something like this,

It was a really fun task to do and you could try as well!
It consists of your Name, Age, a Selfie, Fav Color, ect.
What would your collage look like?

Making House Art!

Hello Fellow Bloggers!
This post is going to be about Making House Art!
I'm sure your school has houses or teams
In the colors of, Red, Yellow, Green and Blue.
In YMS, it's Rutherford, Ormsby, Edgar and Hillary

What House Art is is when we, as a school have to
make bubble like shapes with patterns using the colors of your house.
For example, Ormsby/Yellow, would use Yellows, Oranges, and Gold.
So, how do we draw these you wonder? Take this slide as inspiration.

These are all made on rocks with paint but we used paper and felts or pencils.
If you have any questions about making House Art,
then feel free to ask me.
I would like to hear about some of yours!

Newsela

Hello Fellow Bloggers!
For reading we have been using Newsela.
Some of you might already have heard of it,
It's basically a test that you have to complete on a random subject.

Last week, we did an article about Hairless Cats.
Did you know that they have an 8% increase of body heat than others?
All of the articles come from the NYTimes.
You should go check it out! They have the most popular stories!

Anyway, Hairless cat's. What was I saying again?
That's right. They may not look as cute and playful as others,
but they are the most social cats in the world.
This particular breed of cats first started in Canada.

It was when a mother had a litter of 9 kittens.
One of which was hairless. It's genes were different to most cats.
Genes are what make the body form in it's looks.
Adopting a hairless cat is, let's say it's not that cheap,
as most people charge over $1300 to adopt one!

Their bodys aren't slimy to the touch but allow for downsides.
Here is a picture of what they look like.
Photo by Dustin Humes on Unsplash

They don't look that cuddly do they?
Their skin is like a magnet to dirt and dust,
making them irratated and itch at the skin.
I personally would rather have a Birman Seal Point.

What cat would you consider owning?
I would love to hear what your suggestions are!
I hope you learned something new!

Drawing Bubbles!

Hello Fellow Bloggers!
This week, we have been learning at school
but as you might know, with a few changes.
We have been drawing Bubbels!

Drawing a bubble isn't very easy
But Fun!
If you know your geometry well,
you should know they are spheres.
The bubbles themselves consist of ;
Soap, and Water.

You might have seen that when a bubble is made,
they have most of the colors of the light spectrum.
Pink, purple or blue, to name a few.

I would Recommend drawing it on Black paper.
I would like to hear about your Bubbles!
Do you think you could master perspective?

Going Back To Shcool!!

Welcome back Bloggers!
We have been isolated for sooo long,
that I don't even know half of the keyboard shortcuts.
And also the fact that I don't have a chromebook...

Inside of the classroom is so much more different!
We each have spots to sit in and numbers from 1-30.
And, all of our bags have to stay under our desks.
I honestly think that the MEETs were more organized.

Anyway, the class is a lot different now,
especially since we have to wash and sanitize our hands
A LOT.

There are also a whole bunch of runes that we have to follow
such as, Only teachers can let you inside, and you always have to stay seated.
It's not the same anymore, and things are a lot more difficult
because I just had to put down my Guinea Pig, Blackie.

In the future though, things will get better and better
In terms of distancing and the work.
I hope...

But this can only happen If
YOU
Stay Safe and Keep Your Distancing!

ANZAC Day Activities

For the last week, I have been working on ANZAC Day Activities.
We have been set a number of tasks for ANZAC Day to do over the week.

For those of you like me who were unfamiliar on what ANZAC day is,
It is a day to commemorate the Australian & New Zealand Army landing at Gallipoli in 1915.
The Gallipoli war was about the British, American, and the Soviets battling over
the Gallipoli Peninsular, but was an unsuccessful result as the Turkish won.
Round about 11,000 Australians and New Zealanders died during the battle.

The ANZAC Day is a great thing to celebrate and,
you can also create a lot of things to celebrate it!
Here is a few of the things you could do!

  • Bake ANZAC Biscuits
  • Artwork
  • Go To A Museum
  • Make a Wreath
  • Minecraft/Lego Scene
  • Attend To A Parade
  • Go Poppy Picking
  • Lay Flowers/Wreath At A Monument

I would love to hear about some of your creations or even some

new ideas for next ANZAC or another holiday!
Happy ANZAC Day!
